Just got back in from the opening night at La Cantina at the Warren, the latest project from Tim, the head chef behind the La Cantina Street Kitchen. Opening nights are super stressful affairs: huge numbers of orders and whole heap of things waiting to go wrong. This blog post is more of an overall look at the offerings of La Cantina at the Warren rather than a specific burger!
Let's start off with the shop front and feel of the place. Plenty of glass at the front, an easy to spot menu and some beautiful smells wafting out of the front door - a great start! The feel inside is very much a fish & chip shop, relaxed with some quirky, old school coca cola signs on the walls. There's a large seating area for those who wish to eat inside but this is very much a takeaway.
The menu is vast with a range of burgers, dogs, fish, pies, pizza and sides. From beef burgers piled high with pulled pork to bean burgers with wild rocket, beer battered fish to Italian stone baked pizza. There's definitely something to please everyone, this place is so much more than a burger joint. It's fresh, home made food that's prepared in front of your very eyes.
Price wise it's very reasonable, I went for a dog, sweet potato fries and a coke and had change from a £10 note. The burger movement is moving more and more towards overpriced and overcooked beef burgers with cheese and bacon, La Cantina at the Warren is a refreshing change of direction with some amazing food to back it up.
I'll be heading back soon to review a burger or two but in the mean time if you fancy some top takeaway you can find La Cantina on Warren Road, opposite Londis in Dawlish Warren.
